Is this bad for my Guinea Pig?

My guinea pig is not Peruvian but he has longish hair in the back. On his tummy he has a little clump of matted hair. I comb him every day now. I was just wondering if this can be bad for him. I tried to comb it out,but that does not really work. I don't want to cut it but if I absolutely have to I will.Please Help!
