My Latino friend lies about his ethnicity, saying that he's Middle Eastern rather than South American. Why?

First off, why do you even care? How does this affect you at all? Second, are you absolutely certain that one of his parents are not Lebanese? How does one not look Lebanese......its a country. People of any race can be from a certain country. Perhaps he doesn't like being referred to as a Latino.....only Americans use such labels anyways.
